7º – Jaws (Steven Spielberg, 1975)
Responsible for boosting the career of Steven Spielberg in the midst of the seventh art, ‘Jaws’ brings in his plot the story of a white shark of abnormal proportions who starts to terrorize a beach, attacking its visitors at sea. The film will gain momentum as some individuals, spearheaded by the local sheriff’s efforts, decide to try to stop the shark from continuing to plague the beach. Suspense first, working to fully capture the attention of its viewer, the film continues to impress by its extreme quality to the present day.
6º – I Know What You Did Last Summer (Jim Gillespie, 1997)
After a tragic accident that had victimized a person, some teenagers decide to hide the story and make a silent pact on the case. The story comes to fruition when, a year after the crash, teens start getting messages about the case and having their lives threatened. ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’, along with ‘Urban Legend’ and ‘Panic’, is a film that captures exactly the horror zeitgeist of the 1990s, serving to hasten new directions for the genre that endure until today.
