9º – Career Girls (Mike Leigh, 1997)
In the plot, two friends meet again after several years, reminding together several of the most important fragments of the past. Mike Leigh’s film, ‘Career Girls’ has a nostalgic and melancholy atmosphere for its scenes to unleash, bringing the lives of two women who have to deal with the arrival of 30 years.
8º – Career Opportunities (Bryan Gordon, 1991)
Little known of the 1990s, ‘Career Opportunities’ was eternalized in the afternoons by ‘Afternoon Session’. Here we will see a young adult, unfit and unable to keep a job, who, after receiving an ultimatum from his father, gets a night job at a supermarket. We will gain dynamism in the work when, on its first day, the young man has to deal with the strange appearance of an attractive woman in the vicinity of the market and still survive a robbery. The film is short, restricted basically to a single scenario, but it fulfills well its uncompromising proposal to show some of the youngsters’ concerns about adult life.
