4º – Taxi Driver (Martin Scorsese, 1976)In the midst of a decaying New York, a Vietnam veteran works the night as a taxi driver, witnessing what the city has the worst. The aspect of solitude has in the film an effect for the protagonist to acquire an even greater hatred for other people. ‘Taxi Driver’ does not elevate the concept of loneliness as the major responsible for the acts of the protagonist. No, here the loneliness is only an addition to all the psychological degeneration that the protagonist passes.

3º – The Match Factory Girl (Aki Kaurismäki, 1990)A young woman finds herself shrouded in a life that does not reward her in any way. The woman works in a match factory, with no prospect of professional improvement, her social life simply does not exist and her family despises her in every way. ‘The Match Factory Girl’ brings us the story of a person ruined by the social factor. Here solitude serves more as a source of comfort to the character, causing no negative effect, since any aversive stimulus only happens when exposed to other people.
