10 Horror Movies to Watch of the 1990s

We brought terror in the 1990s as a theme for this list. A decade that was quite prolific for the genre, the 1990s ended, in its second half, providing new directions for a genre that had lost the popular appeal of the previous decade, ending with sagas such as ‘Friday the 13th’, ‘Halloween’ and ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’. Films such as ‘Scream’, ‘Urban Legend’ and ‘The Blair Witch Project’ have managed to attract new audiences and give a new rhythm to terror. The films below try to represent the best of the decade about the genre, including several subgenres, such as ghosts, murderers, snuff movies, legends and myths, and even psychological disorders. 10º – Stir of Echoes (David Koepp, 1999)After being hypnotized in a familiar joke, a man happens to have strange visions with the figure of a dead girl. Dynamic, ‘Stir of Echoes’ manages to capture the attention of the viewer with its interesting unevenness and yet deliver an amazing ending.

9º – Ringu (Hideo Nakata, 1998)A local legend erupts over a cursed VHS tape that kills its viewers seven days later. It is up to a curious reporter to investigate the intricacies of the legend. The Japanese film will use a lot of the popular “jump scares” to rule its plot, surprising who watches each scene.
