3º – Everything Must Go (Dan Rush, 2010)After being fired and his wife expelled from the home, a middle-aged man decides to spend a few days on the lawn of his residence, arranging a garage sale to avoid creating problems with the police. In the course of that time, man will develop a platonic affective bond with his new neighbor and a neighborhood boy. Allocated in the comedy, ‘Everything Must Go’, however, it transcends the genre, delivering a valiant plot on a man’s struggle to find a right direction for his life. In the command of the central character, Will Ferrell has a performance based on the melancholy atmosphere of the film, managing to convey to the viewer all the confusing load that governs his acts in history.
2º – Detachment (Tony Kaye, 2011)Wrapped in an inexorable process of detachment from his life, a substitute teacher has to deal with new affects and unexpected responsibilities. Melancholic in every attack, this work also avoids bringing positive aspects about humanity, and when it does, soon thereafter offers something much worse, deconstructing positive points. The film still has a beautiful performance of the actor Adrien Brody.
1º – Manchester by the Sea (Kenneth Lonergan, 2016)After the death of his brother, a man, wrapped in a self-destructive routine and depressive, is tasked with the mission to take care of his teenage nephew. However, little by little, with various fragments of the past of all the characters, we will see why man is in his current state. ‘Manchester by the Sea’ is a beautiful film but does not offer any positive points to its viewer about the lives studied in the plot.
