8º – A Gun in Each Hand (Cesc Gay, 2012)
Divided into several short stories, the film fits into the lives of normal men over 40, right at times when they face existential crises. Regular when we look at the general compendium, this movie is worth bringing a great team of actors, with the presence of the fantastic Ricardo Darín and Javier Cámara, and an essential central theme.
7º – Night Moves (Arthur Penn, 1975)
A private investigator is hired by a woman whose teenage daughter has disappeared, having to get into the intricacies of the mysterious disappearance of the girl. The film gains its substance when the man begins to face, as the investigation goes on, a degeneration of all the apparatuses of his life, with his wife betraying him, his turbulent past returning to the surface and his day by day more and more empty. A ‘Night Moves’ is a film that impresses by the rigor of its irredeemable script, the productive direction of Arthur Penn and the powerful performance of Gene Hackman, working to investigate the dead end that is the life of a middle-aged man.
6º – While We’re Young (Noah Baumbach, 2014)
A middle-aged couple faces an existential crisis and decides to find comfort in friendship in two young people in their early twenties. However, the search for a past that no longer exists will only bring more confusion to the couple. Belonging to Noah Baumbach’s film, ‘While We’re Young’, despite being in the genre of comedy, he is hard on the viewer to show certain concepts of our existence, such as the inexorable figure of old age, bringing characters who suffer for not being able to win back a youth of joys.
5º – Irrational Man (Woody Allen, 2015)
A college professor experiences an identity crisis when he finds himself enveloped in an insipid routine. However, everything changes when he begins a relationship with a student and has a kind of epiphany, coming to court the idea of an extreme act. ‘Irrational Man’, in all Woody Allen’s genius, is embedded in the intricacies of the middle age in man and the possible destructive power that the period presents to the least prepared. An amazing movie that is worth watching.
