3º – Mandy (Cosmat Cloth, 2018)
Living in an area permeated by forests, a couple has their life of tranquility destroyed after the appearance of a group of a sect. ‘Mandy’ disturbs the viewer for his aesthetic and oneiric atmosphere, raising the figure of a simple story, scenes of the strangest and bizarre possible and bringing the actor Nicolas Cage in one of the most intense interpretations of his filmography.
2º – The VVitch: A New-England Folktale (Robert Eggers, 2015)
In the 17th century, a family, inserted in a rural reality, is tormented by the rumours that a witch permeates the place. Together with the rumors, strange events will occur with the members of the family, putting at stake the fate of their lives. ‘The Witch’ is one of the great surprises of the 2000s. A dense film, leaving all its substance to the attractive atmosphere proposed, leading to a story full of nuances.
1º – Shock Corridor (Samuel Fuller, 1963)
Determined to solve a murder that had taken place in a psychiatric institution, a journalist pretends to be crazy in order to enter the place. However, life inside that institution offers itself as less pleasurable than he had thought, making him, little by little, break with his sanity. ‘Shock Corridor’ studies human greed and the apparatus of mental institutions in the 1960s. A film that is conceptually strong and that still manages to stay current.
