8º – Marty (Delbert Mann, 1955)
A middle-aged man, out of touch with the social arc, begins a new romance that will change his life. The movie will gain its substance by exploring the way the man tries to break some bonds with his mother to build his own life. ‘Marty’ is light in its general compendium, possessing an engaging and always dynamic history.
7º – Julieta (Pedro Almodóvar, 2016)
After finding, by mere figure of chance, an important woman of the past, a mother begins to relive events of its history, as well as to remember the preponderant events that took in the disappearance of its daughter. ‘Julieta’ presents the traditional atmosphere of twists and turns of Pedro Almodóvar’s filmography, in an always agile and pleasant plot.
6º – Black Swan (Darren Aronofsky, 2010)
A dancer has the opportunity of her life by being cast to star in a great play. However, during preparation for the role, little by little, the woman will lose touch with reality, initiating an inexorable degenerative process. ‘Black Swan’ enters this list because of the mother of the central character. Despite having little time on the screen, this character is crucially conceptual for the events that the daughter ends up passing, becoming notable as a castrating figure (looking at a psychoanalytic panorama), which acts on the girl’s life always in a punitive way.
5º – Mother (Joon-ho Bong, 2009)
A mother begins an incessant quest to prove that her son is not guilty of murder. Pearl of South Korean cinema, “Mother” is different from the vast majority of films in the country, with a more cadenciada plot, always set in full transposition to the viewer all the fragments of its history.
