6º – About Schmidt (Alexander Payne, 2002)
A widowed man, already in old age, receives the news that his daughter is getting married. Encouraged by the news, the man decides to cross the country in a trailer to witness the most important day of his daughter’s life. However, the ride to the place will reveal facts about the man he would not have discovered. ‘About Schmidt’ walks between the genres of comedy and drama, working with an impeccable character building. All the brilliance of the film is due to the fact that it does not try to soften the erratic behavior of its central character, showing a man unsuitable for the social encirclement and its inherent suffering because of this. In addition to all the brilliance of the film, it is worth highlighting the irreproachable performance of Jack Nicholson as the protagonist.
