We seek to include in this list films that work their plots about the moral construction governed by the “zeitgeist” of a society, showing how this definition of the word morality acts in a damaging way to individuals or subjects that in some way do not fit into their standards. The films below, whose main themes are sexuality, traumas and the negation of the stranger by the human being, try to make explicit a small sketch of how a construction of morality is habitual and yet harmful to the Western social apparatus. 10º – Kinsey (Bill Condon, 2004)Exploring the nuances of the life of Alfred Kinsey, the man responsible for breaking moral taboos on human sexuality in the 1940s, the film will focus on showing all the various obstacles that have arisen in its trajectory to the detriment of its unusual ideas.
9º – Carol (Todd Haynes, 2015)In New York in the 1950s, an aspiring photographer ends up developing a complex relationship with an older woman, coming to envision new paths to her life never once thought of. The conservative and macho American society of 1950 is faced by the characters, where moral constructions are demolished, albeit in a hurtful way for all parties involved.
