7º – The Color Purple (Steven Spielberg, 1985)
Based on Alice Walker’s novel, the film will tell the story of Celie Johnson, a young black woman who knows only one of the world’s pessimistic views of racial intolerance and machismo impregnated with American society in the early twentieth century. It is difficult for the viewer to dive into that difficult situation which Celie is involved with. Victim of the beating of the husband, the young girl ends up being secluded from the life that awaits her outside. Living a shadow of what might have been, in fact, a life.
6º – Blue Velvet (David Lynch, 1986)
An average young man from a suburban neighborhood in the United States is completely obsessed with the figure of a singer in a bar. Soon, this obsession ends up showing the young man unappealing secrets about the woman’s life, putting at risk his life. Belonging to the cinema of David Lynch, ‘Blue Velvet’ is one of the great films of the filmmaker’s career, exposing a strange and irresistible story in the eyes of the spectators. A masterpiece that gets even better with the iconic scene in which the character played by actor Dean Stockwell makes an unparalleled performance of the song ‘In Dreams’ by the fabulous Roy Orbison.
