8º – Story of Women (Claude Chabrol, 1988)Allocated in Nazi-occupied France in World War II, the film tells the harsh story of a woman who has to deal with the upbringing of her children, an absent husband and the figure of female repression at the time. ‘Story of Women’ is a film masterpiece, bringing a powerful story about the implications of a destructive social model in the lives of the most diverse individuals. Here, we still have one of the greatest female performances in film history, provided by the fantastic Isabelle Huppert.
7º – Carol (Todd Haynes, 2015)In the 1950s, a housewife ends up lovingly involved with a young aspiring photographer, initiating a novel that will shake her family life. ‘Carol’ has a flawless aesthetic part, with lovely plans constructions, in addition to its unique soundtrack. All these components give support to the rustic concepts treated by history, denouncing a whole repressive aura to the female compendium in the world in the decade that the film is inserted.
6º – Belle de Jour (Luis Buñuel, 1967)A housewife decides to spend her afternoons as a program girl, learning about a new reality of life. ‘Belle de Jour’ works on the intricacies of sexuality, offering the viewer concepts that transpose mere fiction.
5º – Frances Ha (Noah Baumbach, 2012)An aspiring dancer faces a difficult time in her life in dealing with the financial problems of adulthood. Lightly, this film shows in a carefree way the stony ways of the early adult life of an individual, always making a counterpoint with the rustic social model of a Western sphere.
