8º – Alps (Yorgos Lanthimos, 2011)A group of people find their way to make a living by fitting into mourning families by playing the person who recently passed away. The strange premise defines well what the movie offers its viewer. Everything here is painful, scary and gives a state of reflection in the viewer. ‘Alps’ makes us think about the process of loss, how our lives are often substantiated by habits and still ponders about the flexibility of the human being.
7º – Paris, Texas (Wim Wenders, 1984)After several years gone, Travis suddenly appears walking completely disoriented by a desert. The film will spend its more than 2 hours in length scrutinizing Travis’ motivations to disappear for so many years, his new connection to his family and his fatherly role to emerge over time. ‘Paris, Texas’ is a film, in its synthesis, about all aspects of life. Here we will see how time leaves us incurable marks, be they positive or negative, and how certain bonds can never be broken.
