10º – Brainstorm (Laís Bodanzky, 2000)After his father discovers his drug use, Neto is sent to a mental institution in order to get rid of any vestige of addiction. Inserted in the reality of the institution, Neto will realize that the life inside could be much more difficult than it presented a priori. ‘Brainstorm’ shows how certain institutions work by destroying the synthesis of what an individual understands. A sad movie in all its unevenness, presenting itself as one of the best works ever conceived in Brazilian cinema.

 

9º – Dead Ringers (David Cronenberg, 1988)Two twin brothers, both doctors, find themselves trapped under an inexorable bond that unites them. The film will gain its dynamicity when a third element, an attractive woman, enters the relationship, managing to break the symbiotic process of the two and provoke cruel changes. David Cronenberg’s masterpiece, ‘Dead Ringers’ manages to capture the attention of the viewer throughout the film, always using a pleasant atmosphere, always emanating a sense of strangeness, as is usual in the director’s filmography.
