A tragic accident works by uniting several different characters. Chance here acts to bring suffering and pain to the characters. Every unevenness of the plot is cruel to the characters, charging them with too heavy a burden to bear. Death appears here in several instances, always promoting a self-analysis by the individuals directly or indirectly affected.

7º – Antichrist (Lars von Trier, 2009)
After the tragic death of their young son, a couple takes refuge in a hut in the forest to deal with the mourning and try to rebuild their lives. Disturbing in all directions, the film opts for a fairly graphical exposition of pathological instances embedded in the psychological construct of each.
6º – Dark Victory (Edmund Goulding, 1939)
A young woman from high society discovers that she has an incurable brain tumor. The film works during its 104 minutes of how the impending death figure acts as a transforming instance in the young woman’s life, making her rethink the attitudes of the past and begin to nurture a different relationship with the world.
5º – The Seventh Seal (Ingmar Bergman, 1957)
In a place plagued by the black plague, a knight will begin a journey of rediscovery of its essence, glimpsing aspects of religion, life and its existence in the world, while locking a lethal game of chess with the figure of death. Ingmar Bergman’s masterpiece.
