10 Movies About Death

We brought in this Top 10 the theme death in the seventh art to the list. We list films that have as main focus in their plots the figure of the death that acts on the personages. The films below, always relying on the genre of drama, are irredeemable works that even expose the question of death to evidence a power of overcoming and adaptation intrinsic to the human being. Let’s go to the list!

10º – The Big Chill (Lawrence Kasdan, 1983)Some friends get together for a weekend together, after the burial of a former member of the group who committed suicide. During this weekend, these friends will make considerations about their current lives, their past, yearnings, pleasures, pains and, of course, death. The death here, exposed by the figure of this friend who committed suicide, will serve as a cathartic exit for conflicts previously insoluble for some of the individuals inserted there. The film will always use a soft atmosphere to deal with difficult subjects.

9º – Cries and Whispers (Ingmar Bergman, 1972)When her sister falls ill because of a relentless cancer, Karin and Maria are forced to return to the home where they have built their lives at a last moment, having to deal with old ghosts and the exasperation of the death figure that increasingly engenders the family. Unlike number ten on this list, the figure of death appears here as a destructive structure for the family, an inexorable burden. This burden eventually brings together individuals tortured by time in the same house. There is a disagreement with everything around, and the suffering sister of the sister, instead of bringing pain to the sisters, brings revulsion. Ingmar Bergman’s masterpiece in all its instances, ‘Cries and Whispers’ is one of the films that enter the life of the spectator as a transforming agent. It is impossible to watch this movie and continue the same after its end.
