7º – American Beauty (Sam Mendes, 1999)
A middle-aged man, enveloped in an unpleasant family and professional routine, decides to break the erratic bonds of his life, giving rise to a new and unique model of behavior. Directed by Sam Mendes, ‘American Beauty’ unravels the rotten interior of some middle-class families of American society, exposing all the claudicating nature that comprises its members.
6º – The People vs. Larry Flynt (Milos Forman, 1996)
The plot, concentrated in the 1970s, explores several periods of the life of a controversial adult magazine owner, bringing his unique model to deal with the social realm, as well as investigating his turbulent life with the woman he loves. ‘The People vs. Larry Flynt’ has a much lower popularity among moviegoers than it should. Everything here works. Screenplay, directed by Milos Forman, thematic and the irreproachable performances of Woody Harrelson and Courteney Love make this film a true masterpiece of the second half of the 1990s.
