5º – Dark Water (Hideo Nakata, 2002)After her divorce, a woman moves with her little daughter to an old building in order to rebuild her life. The place, however, does not seem to provide many positive things for the two, making their lives a living hell as hauntings take over every corner of the building. Pearl of Japanese horror, ‘Dark Water’ leaves all the charm of the building in its macabre and strange atmosphere. The story does have its problems, but they are overwhelmed by the set of scary scenes and interesting characters.
4º – Stir of Echoes (David Koepp, 1999)After participating in a family prank and being hypnotized, a man has frightening visions of a ghost surrounding him. A pearl hidden in the 1990s, ‘Stir of Echoes’ manages to be dynamic in each scene, frightening its viewer solely with the tenuous construction of its history.
