9º – Hellraiser (Clive Barker, 1987)A man and a woman move into an old family home. In the place, the woman finds a freak in one of the rooms who claims to be her former lover, her husband’s brother. Soon, we will begin a bloody journey between this not at all normal love triangle. Disturbing in its layer of horror exposed to the viewer, ‘Hellraiser’ is an atmospheric horror film of excellent quality. Its plot – adapted from a book by Clive Barker (who also directs the feature) – manages to maintain a dynamic and mysterious character that keeps those watching apprehensive. 8º – Cold Fish (Sion Sono, 2010)In the plot, a man finds himself in a delicate situation when his daughter is caught shoplifting. However, the owner of the store, a middle-aged gentleman, solves the situation quietly and invites the young woman to work there. However, not everything is as it seems, and that pleasant gentleman, as well as his family, can hide terrifying secrets. Extreme and disturbing, ‘Cold Fish’ is bold in bringing every meander of his plot upon the evil in his cruelest face. His director, controversial Sion Sono, manages to merge several genres into one film, resulting in a unique experience exposed to the spectator, the Pearl of Japanese Cinema, which, it is good to reinforce, is far from being a recommended film for all audiences, with graphic and psychological contents that make even the most accustomed go wrong.
