3º – Escape from New York (John Carpenter, 1981)In a devastated New York City, a known dissident and criminal has to work alongside the government in trying to rescue the kidnapped president. Directed by the legendary John Carpenter, ‘Escape from New York’ impresses by creating an incredible parallel world with an extremely limited budget. Besides all the positive points of the film, we still have the presence of Kurt Russell commanding the work, playing one of the most memorable characters of the actor’s expressive career, the distinguished Snake Plissken.
2º – The Thing (John Carpenter, 1982)In the icy climate of Antarctica, a group of American scientists find themselves in a deadly situation when a strange virus hits the camp where they are housed, initiating a climate of inexorable paranoia. ‘The Thing’ is one of the greats of the science fiction genre, with a plot that frightens in the same proportion that it attracts.
1º – Big Trouble in Little China (John Carpenter, 1986)A tough trucker ends up in another world’s mess by mere chance, having to face a gang with paranormal powers to recover his truck and a kidnapped girl. Pearl of the 1980s, ‘Big Trouble in Little China’ is a delightful film. Its plot, which follows a more unpretentious pattern of history, manages to entertain and amuse the viewer every minute.
