4º – Mulholland Dr. (David Lynch, 2001)After suffering a car accident, a woman ends up suffering from amnesia, seeking, with the help of an aspiring actress, to find out more about who she is. ‘Mulholland Dr.’ is one of the most confusing and bewildering films of the cinema, with a plot that always changes direction and chooses to expose fragments that cause strangeness to the viewer.
3º – The Grapes of Wrath (John Ford, 1940)After losing the land on which they lived, several members of a family decide to cross the country in a truck looking for a place to live. Sad and extremely relevant in its thematic, ‘The Grapes of Wrath’ shows the destructive degree of an erratic social model in the lives of the lower layers. A film that can stay current even more than 70 years after its release.
2º – Polytechnique (Denis Villeneuve, 2009)Based on a real event, the film tells the story of a massacre at a school that had housed several students. We will gain substance in the plot by exploring the lives of individuals struck before the tragic day. Sadly, this work is impeccably conceived by its director, the great Denis Villeneuve, with a short and punctual history in his attacks, promoting a series of questions to the viewer.
1º – Blind Chance (Krzysztof Kieslowski, 1987)We will follow three different variations of the life of the same man, always starting from the assumption of his decision to take a train or not. Working with the figure of chance in the life of the human being, ‘Blind Chance’ shows how our journey in the world eludes our own choices. A conceptually strong film, still possessing one of the most striking endings of all seventh art.
