5º – I Hired a Contract Killer (Aki Kaurismäki, 1990)
After spending several years in a job, a middle-aged man finds himself completely oblivious to the world when he is fired from the place. Disillusioned, the man decides to attempt suicide, discovering that he had no stomach for such an act. In desperation, he decides to hire a professional killer to do the job for him, not realizing that his life has left him with some positive things that may make him change his mind. ‘I Hired a Contract Killer’ is a film about the inability of Western society to deal with the loneliness and power that another individual represents in the lives of these people.
