10 Best Movies of the 2010s

3º – Phantom Thread (Paul Thomas Anderson, 2017)During the 1950’s, a respected middle-aged stylist ends up developing a passion for an ordinary young woman, starting with her a strange and obsessive relationship that will transform the way they both view life. A masterpiece, ‘Phantom Thread’ brings all the mastery we are used to in the cinema of Paul Thomas Anderson. A story that moves in a cadenced way and destroys its central characters completely, leaving the task of “labeling” right or wrong to the spectators and their subjective visions. In command of the central character, Daniel Day-Lewis has an unrecoverable performance, using an intensity exposed in simple gestures and in a soft voice.

2º – La La Land (Damien Chazelle, 2016)An aspiring actress and a claudicating jazz musician, by mere chance, meet and fall in love, starting a beautiful relationship that will make them both grow emotionally. ‘La La Land’, a film conceived in musical format, is a worthwhile novel, bringing irrevocable performances by Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling before the protagonists, an irresistible plot, sound compositions that manage to involve the viewer and a great direction by Damien Chazelle.

1º – Arrival (Denis Villeneuve, 2016)After several alien ships have landed on Earth in various parts of the globe, a linguist is hired to try to unlock the secrets of that ship that is in the United States. Little by little, she realizes that the aliens’ motivations were much more positive than they seemed. ‘Arrival’ is an impacting film. By managing to understand the nuances of the plot, we are taken to what is most beautiful among the philosophical aspects.
