This list is special for Alfred Hitchcock fans, bringing ten films directed by other directors, but that present the most basic and charming concepts of Hitchcock cinema. They are great works that raise a suspense of the highest quality, always counting on effective plots and permeated by incredible twists and turns. Let’s go to the list!
10º – Dressed to Kill (Brian De Palma, 1980)A strange woman starts murdering the patients of a psychiatrist. When a young woman witnesses one of the murders, the strange woman will begin to invest her efforts in silencing the witness. Impeccable, ‘Dressed to Kill’ is a treat for the thriller fan. A film that takes advantage of the classic aspects used decades before by Alfred Hitchcock, creating new characteristics that would be repeated countless times in subsequent years by films of the same genre. Best suspense of Brian De Palma’s career.
9º – Body Double (Brian De Palma, 1984)A man finds himself completely obsessed with the figure of a young neighbor, secretly observing her until an unfortunate event changed the course of everything. A film directed by one of the great masters of the history of suspense in cinema, ‘Body Double’ is a film that explores, above all, sexuality, entering a world of different fetishes, always against the backdrop of its plot that develops in a cadenced way.
8º – Fatal Attraction (Adrian Lyne, 1987)After committing adultery with an attractive woman, a man will see his life take on cruel contours when this woman becomes completely obsessed with him. Now it will be up to the man to save his marriage and get rid of that unpleasant woman. ‘Fatal Attraction’ is one of the greatest successes of the suspenseful gender of the 1980s. Even containing some typical errors of the genre and a predictable ending, this film is still worth the 119 minutes invested. The direction of Adrian Lyne and the good participation of Michael Douglas and Glenn Close are still worth mentioning.
